As a Reiki Master Teacher of more than a decade, I have come to realize that I have a unique connection with the animal kingdom, and also that there is one very special aspect of working with animals in this capacity:
Animals are wide open to healing energy of all kinds because we do not have to overcome the 'ego' traits that we must overcome when working with humans.
For the most part, Animals trust us until we prove we cannot be trusted, and they look to us to care for them and for the planet so that they may continue to survive and thrive. As intelligent, reasonable beings, we have a huge responsibility toward the animal kingdom...yet, in our daily lives, we so often forget that we share Mother Earth with other species, and all living beings are connected through this delicate web of life. Positive energy offered in any way to our animal friends is beneficial. It can only do good. It must be offered without expectation of return, from the heart, and with the intention that it will benefit the animal's highest good. In offering healing to animals, we must always keep in mind that healing can mean many things, as we recall when offering healing to our fellow humans. It can be literal, as in moving from physically unwell to well and balanced, or healing can be on a spiritual or emotional level. We must let go of our own goals when we are channeling healing energy to any being, and defer to the Source, the Universal Energy, where all life originates, for higher guidance during our task. As healers, we are the channel ONLY, never the source. Yes, we are small fragments of the Source Energy, but we must always be humble, offering healing without ego attachement to the outcome. Remaining 'neutral' allows the intelligent energy, as Reiki is often called, to go where the animal needs it most. No matter how good one is at sensing energy imbalances or illness, the Source Energy is undeniably wiser and will override any intention or ego block that may arise. Remember, animals typically do not block or impede the flow of the energy, so they can receive great benefits from a healing session.
Please be aware when you choose a healing treatment for your pet or local wildlife---the healing energy will always align with the animal's higher journey. That said, if your pet is terminally ill, sometimes a full recovery is not possible, but pain relief may be. Or, guidance to the Rainbow Bridge in the afterlife may be more easily facilitated, bringing deep peace in the animal's last days. I always defer to the Source Energy to decide this, and I let the client know that their pet will receive healing energy in a way that always aligns with their higher purpose. When you come to me for assistance, I ask that you leave your ego at the door, so to speak. Yes, you do want your pet to be well again, but I ask that you raise your thoughts and heart to the place where you can do what is most correct for the animal. This can be difficult, but in offering your beloved friend unconditional love and support, you will also avoid the guilt that can come with making ego-only choices in times of desperation. Allow yourself to think through every decision you make for your pet with all aspects of your being, not just the place where impulses reside. This will help you to help them on a much deeper level!
